Love this! Even when transit isn’t an option, I find connecting with a local driver for the day (or even the week!) enriches my stay so much (and leads to the best dining recs!)

Rebecca, we couldn't agree more. Connecting with a local for any reason can be totally enriching. I (Pavia) booked a cheap and cheerful bed and breakfast for a night along the Italian coast. When the owner asked me how I was arriving and I told him by train, he said, "I'll come pick you up. It will be easier and cheaper than calling a taxi." He didn't want payment for the ride; he was just being hospitable. And you can bet we went to the restaurant he recommended and had a great meal.

You are such amazing curators of travel and now the voice we need to hear about keeping life with a bit of “friction” to support one’s sense of self reliance and grit. Another buzzword from the past! You get the picture; I get the point. Bravo ladies, keep it coming🙏🥂

Can we create a mission to bring back paper maps and atlases?

We're there with you. Though can we use them in addition to Google Maps?
